A-47 2.5L Mod Hydroplane Flip at Hampton

Bobby Kennedy in Greg Issac’s A-47 2.5L Modified Hydroplane blew-over on Saturday August 11th at the Hampton Cup Regatta. Kennedy was leading the qualifying heat when on the third lap Tom Thompson in A-52 made a move to the inside and got by Kennedy in turn 2. Coming out of the turn very wide the A-47 shot up the front stretch and caught Thompson only to lift off the water coming into turn 1. It was a spectacular crash with the boat flipping 360 degrees and maybe a little more before violently twisting and coming to a rest right side up. Kennedy was out of the boat seconds after the boat stopped and Region 4 Rescue was on the scene immediately but the driver was okay and returned to race in 2.5 stock a short while later. Hydroplane Quebec had a GoPro camera on the boat but unfortunately the camera was not recording during the heat which was a rerun of the qualification race.
